-June 11 – 13 we will host the Nixa Youth Wrestling Camp.  This is for Grades 1 – 8 (2012-2013), the camp cost $30 and will be held in the Nixa HS Wrestling Room from 6:00-7:30 PM.  I have attached the sign-up sheet which should be returned to the High School.  You can also sign-up on the first day of the camp as well.

-June 14 we will be holding our 2 Annual Nixa vs Georgia dual.  We are still working out times but the dual will being around 6PM that evening and will be in the main gym of the High School. After the dual we will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs in the parking lot. More information will follow after we know how many kids they are bringing and what weights they are.   

 -We will not be attending the University of Oklahoma Team Camp this year.  After collaborating with our staff we feel that it is in the best interest of our TEAM to not attend a large team camp this year for different reasons.  Instead I will highly encourage our athletes to sign up for the Labette Camp and attend if possible, this is a cheaper camp where you will get instruction and matches.   

-Labette Camp I have attached a document with information for the Labette Team Camp.  There will be a meeting on May 29 at 6:00 PM at the High School for the parents of those attending, in addition please e-mail Coach Martin to RSVP for the camp (include name and grade for year 2012-2013). There is also a Labette Youth Camp offered on June 4 & 5 that Coach Harris is probably going to attend (ages for youth camp is 6-13 and cost $40).  If you are interested in attending the YOUTH camp please contact me and I will get information to you. 

  

-We have added a team camping trip on June 27 (last day of summer school).  We will depart the school around mid-afternoon and head to some land that Coach Harris’ father owns.  There is a large pond that they will be able to fish in.  We will cook out for dinner and fish along with other activities.  I will give the guys more information during summer school, but all are invited.   

-June 30 from 8:00-10:00 AM we will be holding a pancake breakfast at the Nixa Applebee’s.  Tickets are $5 and can be pre-purchased or purchased at the door.  This is a good fundraiser for our team and I ask that everyone try to invite someone to attend.   

 -June 30 the Nixa Wrestling Program will be volunteering to help cover parking at the Sertoma Duck Race.  We need wrestlers to sign up for the following time slots: 3:00-5:30 PM, 5:00-7:30 PM, and 7:00-9:30 PM.  Please contact Coach Martin if you are willing to help.   

 -If you have not signed up for summer school wrestling session you need to do so ASAP. The wrestling session is from 7:30-10:15 AM. Contact Coach Martin for information about getting signed up.

The Nixa Wrestling Team and Tri-Lakes Wrestling competed at the Missouri USA State Tournament this past weekend.  I’m proud to say that both Tri-Lakes and Nixa Wrestling had the best results we have ever had at the State level, below are the results!   

The following athletes competed: Mason Simmons, Stanton Finley, Naseeph Al-Roubaie, Joe Velliquette, Marshall Osborne, Christian Lance, Xyah Ra, and Joey Broadbent.  

FREESTYLE: 

State Champion Stanton Finley, State Champion Xyah Ra, State Runner-Up Mason Simmons   

GRECO-ROMAN: 

State Champions: Stanton Finley, Joe Velliquette, Marshall Osborne, Xyah Ra.  State Runner-Up Mason Simmons, 4 Place Naseeph Al-Roubaie   

While we had a lot of good things including 4 individuals winning State Championships for Nixa, the biggest win of the tournament had to be captured my freshmen Marshall Osbourne.  In the semi-finals of the Greco-Roman tournament Marshall beat the MSHSAA 2012 (Class 4) 120 pound State Champion from Seckman High School.  This was a huge win for a determined freshmen wrestler.
